Pick 1: Carolina Panthers (via CHI) The Panthers selected Bryce Young with the first pick, which I think is the clear choice. He has the highest intangibles of all the QBs in the draft. As long as his size doesn't become a problem for him, he will thrive in the NFL Grade: S Pick 2: Houston Texans The Texans get their guy in C.J. Stroud. Stroud had low marks on the new test pre-draft, but looked like the best QB in the class on the field. I guess we will find out quickly if the test is bogus or not, but for now, I like the pick. Grade: A Pick 3: Houston Texans (via ARI) The Texans grab another pick on draft night and take Will Anderson. Anderson was my second pick for edge rushers, but is still a beast. Should fit in just fine in Houston. Talking about all 4 Minnesota sports teams today. The Wild, Wolves, and Twins all played last night and all need to be talked about. Starting with the Wild. There really isn't much to say about Game 5 itself. The Wild played like crap, but I will talk about the officiating this series and *WARNING* I'm going to sound bias in this one. The Wild and Stars series is totally off the rails officiating wise. Both teams are getting bad calls, but the Wild are getting much worse ones to be honest with you. Lets start back in Game 4 where Foligno got an interference call for hitting the guy that just had the puck. No penalty deserved in my opinion. Then the Foligno attempted a check near the boards in Game 4, where he completely missed, was taken down by a Dallas player and HE was called for tripping. Complete bullshit, but not as bullshit as the penalty last night. Foligno went for a hit near center ice after Faksa caught a puck and put it down on the ice. Foligno's hit looked like...

  The Wild and Stars met again in St. Paul for Game 4 of the Best of 7 series. However, the action packed game was ruined by officiating. The first period started by the first few minutes feeling like all Dallas, but quickly turned into Minnesota's game as they had the puck in the Dallas end for a majority of the period. No goals resulted in the period even though each team had a number of opportunities. The second period was evenly fought in terms of shots, and time in each others end as each team got more opportunities, but Dallas got the best one of the night going onto a powerplay off a Marcus Foligno penalty. This was one of the many terrible calls by the referees last night and I'll get to that shortly. Dallas was able to capitalize with a Tyler Seguin powerplay goal to lead 1-0 going into the third.   Remember in my "About Me" section on the home page when I said I was only going to write about what I felt like? Well I really don't feel like writing about the Timberwolves anymore and this will likely be the last time this season. I am going to keep it short and sweet here. The Timberwolves have no answer for the Nuggets. The Nuggets look like a real NBA Finals contender. The Wolves were never going to win this series without McDaniels, but I didn't think it would be this bad. The Wolves play the Nuggets again on Sunday night for Game 4 to try to prevent the sweep, which I think is all but inevitable.

The Minnesota Wild were back to pretty much full strength going into this one besides Mason Shaw, who announced the famous "Let's play hockey!" for the Wild last night. Hartman, Erikson Ek, and Klingberg were all in, and boy did it help the Wild. About 7 seconds into his first shift Erikson Ek came of the ice, walked down the tunnel, and never returned. I know he really wanted to get out there and help his team, but maybe he just wasn't ready. The Wild are going to monitor it and see what happens. If he reaggravated it, he could be done for the season or at least the first one or two playoffs rounds. Mats Zuccarello put the first points on the board in the first period and gave the Wild a 1-0 lead pretty early. The game stayed 1-0 for awhile as the Wild won the battle most of the first period.   The MLB has been cracking down on substances off and on for a few years now. It feels like in 2021 they were really concerned about it, in 2022 it seemed like they didn't really care at all, and now in 2023 they are concerned about it again. The issue so far this year though, is the discipline taken on it. The 2 cases I want to compare are Domingo German of the New York Yankees and Max Scherzer of the New York Mets. Both happened within a week of each other. The New York Yankees played the Minnesota Twins on Jackie Robinson Day and in the end of the 3rd inning German was being investigated for having some sort of sticky substance on his hands. The umpiring crew deliberated and talked to German for a decent amount of time, then in the beginning of the 4th the umpires checked German again, took a long time, and eventually German walked back out to the mound. Normally this doesn't happen, because if the umpires are talking that long, usually they have found a substance, and the ...

  The Denver Nuggets take both Home games to start the series 2-0 over the Timberwolves. Game 2 looked to be getting out of hand early in the first when the Nuggets went up by over 20 points towards the end of the 1st quarter. Nikola Jokic and Jamal Murray combined for 67 points in the game. The Nuggets used Jokic as bait last night to get shots for Murray. Jokic was a major problem in Game 1, so with the Wolves focusing on looking him down in Game 2, Jamal Murray stepped up. The Wolves found themselves down 64-49 at the half, and it looked like an easy win for the Nuggets, until the third quarter started. The Wolves put up 40 points in the 3rd quarter and went on what I believe was a 16-0 run late in the third. This was all led by Anthony Edwards and Karl-Anthony Towns, who were great on both sides of the floor in the second half. The Wolves cooled off a bit in the 4th, missing some good looks, and giving up more points. A lot of questionable fouls in the 4th sent Denver to the li...

  Dallas came surging back in Game 2. After the overtime loss in Game 1 and the loss of Joe Pavelski, they were ready for Game 2, and boy were they good. The Wild quickly got on the powerplay in the first period getting off to what looked like a great start until Roope Hintz was left on a shorthanded breakaway that led to a goal. The Wild were not able to capitalize on the powerplay and a few minutes after, Dallas got a powerplay of themselves. The penalty was a double minor for high-sticking that was caused by a Stars playing lifting the stick of Jake Middleton into Max Domi's face. While I don't agree with the call watching the replay, you have to give the officials the benefit of the doubt on that call. In the heat of the moment the officials see a stick come up and hit Domi. Tyler Seguin was able to get one past Fleury making it a 2-0 stars lead halfway through the first. The Wild were able to get one back on a redirection by Oskar Sundqvist.   Jovani Moran has begun his third year in the majors, and its off to a less than ideal start. Moran has started the season with a 7.71 ERA in 7 innings pitched. He can't seem to find the strike zone too often, but when he does, he paints the corners. Moran had a fantastic year with the Twins in 2022, posting a 2.21 ERA with 54 strikeouts and allowed no home runs in the 40.2 innings he pitched last year. In 2021 Moran posted a 7.88 ERA in 8 innings pitched. To start 2023 Moran has already allowed 2 long balls, and 7 runs to score not even a month into the season. Last night being probably his worst outing yet. The Twins and Red Sox exchanged leads all game leading into extra innings tied at 4 a piece. Twins pitcher Jhoan Duran pitched a fantastic 9th inning to force extra innings. The Minnesota Wild and Dallas Stars first round Stanley Cup Playoff series started last night at nearly 9:00pm Central Time (to much dismay of Minnesota Sports fans with day jobs). This is the Wild's 10th playoff appearance in the last 11 years and Dallas' 6th in the past 10 years. The first period was dominated by the Wild. I believe they had triple the shots on goal towards the end of the 1st. The first goal of the game was scored by Kirill Kaprizov on the powerplay after redirecting a shot from Jared Spurgeon late in the first. The 2nd period is where things started to get chippy. A few wild penalties put Dallas on the board twice with goals from 2 of their first line forwards Roope Hintz and Jason Robertson. From here the game started to get more and more physical with the hits coming more often. Especially a massive hit by Matt Dumba midway through the 2nd that set the tone for the entire series.
