Double Minnesota Playoff Ls, Twins Win Series against the Yankees, and NFL Draft
Talking about all 4 Minnesota sports teams today. The Wild, Wolves, and Twins all played last night and all need to be talked about.
Starting with the Wild. There really isn't much to say about Game 5 itself. The Wild played like crap, but I will talk about the officiating this series and *WARNING* I'm going to sound bias in this one.
The Wild and Stars series is totally off the rails officiating wise. Both teams are getting bad calls, but the Wild are getting much worse ones to be honest with you. Lets start back in Game 4 where Foligno got an interference call for hitting the guy that just had the puck. No penalty deserved in my opinion. Then the Foligno attempted a check near the boards in Game 4, where he completely missed, was taken down by a Dallas player and HE was called for tripping. Complete bullshit, but not as bullshit as the penalty last night. Foligno went for a hit near center ice after Faksa caught a puck and put it down on the ice. Foligno's hit looked like knee-knee but this was only because Faksa turned to get the puck on his backhand. Faksa "went down hard" (a complete dive in my opinion) and Foligno was called for a 5 minute major that was under review. At this point I was sitting there like "Ok, they called the major just in case, they will review and downgrade the call". Nope. They make it WORSE and call a 5 minute major MISCONDUCT on Foligno??? Foligno didn't move at all, their guy moved. If anything it should be 2 minutes on the Stars for embellishment. The Stars have been diving all series and getting rewarded for it. I guess if the Wild want to win this series they have to let the Stars beat them up, while not checking in return, because the last 3 clean hits Foligno has made have all been penalized. The NHL is starting to become very weak in these playoffs, and its really annoying. Anyways Game 6 in St. Paul on Friday as the Wild try to beat the Stars (and refs) to force a Game 7.
The Timberwolves also lost last night and in turn lost the series to the Nuggets. Anthony Edwards and Karl Anthony Towns were both carrying the team at the end of the game. The was some more poor officiating in this game, but I have complained about that enough today already. The Wolves would have made this series a lot closer if they were healthy, but oh well. The Wolves have a big offseason coming up and I think they need to clean house except for Ant, Naz, and McDaniels.
The Twins won their second game of the series against the Yankees at home and won their first series against the Yankees since 2001. The win was led by a 2-run homer by Byron Buxton and 2-run homer by Trevor Larnach. Jorge Polanco has been electric in his comeback, batting .409 with 1 HR and 6 RBIs in the 5 games he has played back with the Twins. If the Twins continue to pitch well and Polanco, Solano, and the rest of the bats keep producing, they could have a fantastic season. The Twins look to sweep the Yankees this afternoon for the first time since 1991.
The NFL Draft is tomorrow and the Vikings have the 23rd pick. I'll keep this short since I'm not really a draft expert, but ill give my take on what I think is best for the Vikes.
The Vikings sit at 23 in a difficult spot. Its too low to get a QB probably, and also too low to get a corner. They are likely to take a Wide Receiver if they stay put at 23. I think they should either move up to get a QB/CB or move down and get some more later round picks. They could use a WR yes, but its not top priority. They need to build and defense and get a good rookie QB on a cheap contract so that they can sign more defensive players next year when Kirk is (mostly) off the books.
